"We
have a program which attracts a large number of students who are
interested in video game design. We showed this movie at the beginning
of the semester to help challenge some of the typical notions
about what a video game is and what it can say.
The
film tells an important story about how a video game can make
a social statement and asks important questions about what we
are willing to let the future of this medium be. The movie gets
beyond the typical question of 'do games cause violence?' and
asks the more important question: 'As art, what can games accomplish?'
The
film and subsequent Q&A we scheduled with the director was
one of the most well received events we have hosted for our Arts
and Technology students. If you have students working in digital
media - particularly digital games, make them see this film; it
will change the way they think about game design. Forget just
designing games for fun - this film makes the case that video
games can do so much more!"
